Love Your Scarf project and O’Go Caron Colorama Halo yarn review

This year I am feeling the love from all of my wonderful supporters and I wanted to let it show to the world, I have designed a super easy beginner’s graph scarf using the O’Go Caron Colorama Halo yarn. This is a new yarn to me but I have been drawn to it every time I am at the store so had to figure out the perfect project to use it with.

First let’s say that I was skeptical of the O’Go yarns, Does it really unravel with no tangles?

I can officially say yes it does, and this makes working with it so enjoyable. The yarn unravels so smoothly, with no tugging at all. Even when a typical skein of yarn can be started from the center and has no tangles it still does not glide as smoothly as this yarn does straight from the start. The ease of being able to decide what color I wanted to start with also was a major bonus with this yarn. How can you do that, you may ask. The secret is the thin plastic thread that is in the center of the yarn that holds the whole circle together.

You need to snip the plastic cord where you want to begin then you can choose the end you want to start with. This is so much better than having to reroll an entire skein of yarn to start with a specific color. (I have done this before, Ugh!)

There is a lot of yarn in these little circles, I was skeptical even though I saw that it has 481 yards. The way it is wound makes the amount deceiving to the eye. I used one full skein for the Love Your Scarf pattern.

Now that we have established how the magical O’Go yarn works let’s talk about the Caron Colorama Halo yarn.

This yarn comes in a multitude of soft hues that have a lovely ombre’ effect and a soft fuzzy halo of white.  It is an acrylic blend yarn that is machine washable.

Although the label states it is a 5-bulky weight yarn, this yarn is more typical for other Caron yarns and is more of a thinner 4 weight yarn. Manufacturing suggestion is a J-10 / 6.0mm hook and in the pattern below I used a 6mm hook which worked up perfectly. It is very soft to work with, but does slide around on the hook a bit, making it a little more difficult to stitch with. Mine kept sliding off the hook at first, but I got into a groove and it worked up well after that point. Unlike other ombre yarns the color gradient is so gradual that you almost don’t even notice that the color has changed until you stand back and look at it.

All and all I do like this yarn and will be buying more O’Go in the future. I hope you enjoy making the scarf I used for this review as much as I did.

Love Your Scarf

1 Skein O’Go Caron Colorama Halo, 5 bulky weight yarn in Rose Frost

1 Skien Premier Cotton Fair, 2 Fine weight yarn in Red

(Cotton Fair is a cotton/acrylic blend and is machine washable)

J-10 / 6.0mm crochet hook

Scissors and a yarn needle

Tassel maker or pompom maker (optional)

Overall length, without tassels = 80 in.

Overall width= 7 in.

This pattern is worked in a graph intended for Corner 2 Corner graphing. The hearts are achieved by adding the red yarn to the Colorama yarn and working 2 strands together. With this technique and pattern you will not need to compete with multiple bobbins to create a beautiful project. Be sure to leave long tails at the start and end of your project to sew the ends together as a point by folding the outside corners to the back of the scarf and sewing along the seam. I added tassels to the ends of mine but you could leave them off completely or you may prefer to add small pompoms.

Fold corners together to form a pint and stitch together.

Attach tassel or pompom to each point.
